CERC Hosts 2nd Tampa Bay Tour of Solar Homes
The largest grassroots solar event in history will take place Saturday, October 2, with USF's Clean Energy Research Center (CERC) hosting Tampa Bay's "National Tour of Solar Homes." The tour is part of a national collaboration to help Americans address a critical problem while introducing them to an array of clean, effective solutions that generate ongoing economic and environmental rewards.
This year's event (scheduled for Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.), will be a self-guided tour of area homes and businesses with solar systems. A map of exhibitors will be available for folks who want to see these homes. Come by our laboratory at 3720 Spectrum Blvd.(adjacent to the USF campus at the intersection of Fowler Ave. and Spectrum Blvd.) to pick up the map. We ask that you register your contact information with us at that time, so as to help us protect our volunteer exhibitors.
This is the second year that CERC has hosted the Tampa Bay region's leg of the national event. The tours introduce communities to solar technologies and other alternative energies.
The national event is organized and coordinated by the American Solar Energy Society. This event offers you the opportunity to tour innovative green homes and buildings to see how you can use solar energy, energy efficiency, and other sustainable technologies to reduce monthly utility bills and help tackle climate change. More than 160,000 participants will visit some 5,500 buildings in 3,200 communities across the U.S.
Now in its 15th year, this event is coordinated nationally by the nonprofit American Solar Energy Society in collaboration with dozens of outstanding partner organizations. It takes place annually during the first Saturday in October in conjunction with National Energy Awareness Month.
